The immediate past governor of Ekiti state Dr Kayode Fayemi has refuted an allegation by the just impeached speaker of the state House of Assembly,Rt. Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan that he (Fayemi) rooted his removal from office.
Aribisogan had on a private national television station alleged his removal was masterminded by the former governor.
Seventeen lawmakers on Monday at the plenary presided over by the Deputy speaker,Rt. Hon. Akeem Jamiu announced the impeachment of Aribisogan due to his alleged blockage in passage of revised 2022 supplementary budget presented by the executive.
The lawmakers eventually elected Hon.Bunmi Adelugba from Emure constituency as the new Speaker, becoming the first female to occupy such position in the state.
Fayemi in a press release yesterday from his media office in Abuja signed by Ahmad Sajoh distanced from the development added such was an internal arrangements among the lawmakers which he couldn’t have hands.
The statement reads:
“We note the allegation by the former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr. Gboyega Aribisogan, that his impeachment was masterminded by Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the immediate past Governor of the State.
“We wish to clarify that Dr. Fayemi had nothing to do with the removal of the former Speaker by his peers as this was the internal arrangement of the State House of Assembly”
The statement which stated that Fayemi even during his tenure as governor upheld sanctity of legislatures and allowed the lawmakers to operate independently added,
“We wish to note that even as Governor, Dr. Fayemi did not interfere with the independence of the House and respected the principle of separation of powers where the House had
freedom to decide on their internal affairs”.
