The Management of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, EKSUTH, has denied reports that it refused to evacuate victims recovered from the recent flooding incident in the state.

The hospital was reacting to allegations circulating on social media that it declined to receive and evacuate victims of the flood.

Describing the allegation as false, the management said it has been working with relevant agencies of the Ekiti State Government in the search, recovery and management of the victims since the incident occurred.

“Following the unfortunate incident, EKSUTH has worked closely with relevant agencies of the Ekiti State Government in the search, recovery and appropriate management of the victims,” the management said in a statement.

It clarified that two bodies so far recovered have been received and are currently being kept at the hospital’s mortuary.

“At present, the bodies of two recovered victims have been received and are being kept at the EKSUTH mortuary,” the statement added.

The management said it is unaware of any circumstance that could have given rise to the claim that it refused to evacuate recovered victims.

“We urge members of the public to rely on verified information, particularly at this difficult time and avoid the circulation of reports that may cause further distress to affected families,” it said.

The hospital extended condolences to families of the deceased and the people of Ekiti State over the incident.
