Ekiti SWAN Sets to Honour Oluyemi  Kayode’s  Mother

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN Ekiti State Chapter said it has initiated a plan to honour Mrs Cecilia Oluyemi, mother of late Nigerian athlete, Oluyemi Kayode.

SWAN in a statement signed by the Chairman,Qozeem Oladapo and the secretary,Bisi Ogunleye stated it is contacting “individuals and corporate bodies to put together a decent and befitting ceremony to honour the woman”.

The event is being planned for October 1st, this year in Ado Ekiti, to coincide with the 28th anniversary of the death of the athlete.

The Ado Ekiti born Oluyemi Kayode, who alongside three others, won a silver medal for Nigeria in 4 by 100 metres relay at the 1992 Olympic Games, died in a road crash in the United States on the 1st of October, 1994 at the age of 26.

The then Ondo State government subsequently renamed the Ado Ekiti Township Stadium in his memory.
