The Ekiti State Governor Mr Biodun Oyebanji has called on members of the state consultative committee on statistics SCCS to always provide needed statistics and relevant indicators that would enhance the implementation of government programs and projects for the people of the state.
The Committee a body of Professional Statisticians in the public service of the state and research institution’s expected to provide statistics for planning and policy formulation as well as generating relevant indicators to monitor and evaluate the outcome and impact of government programs and projects on the populace.
Governor Oyebanji who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government Dr Habibat Adubiaro said that the state was in need of real time data that would inform it’s policies and programmes geared towards improving the living standard of the people.
The Governor said that “this underscores the importance of statisticians and at this crucial time of implementating :1.The State development plan (2021-2050) ii. The sustainable development goals as well as other development plan that the state has embraced to progressively and meaningfully develop the State to a great height among the States of the Federation”.
“I am confident of the ability of the manpower in the State bureau of statistics and other components of the state statistical who are meeting today under the umbrella of the SCCS to live up to their expectation in producing regularly,the required statistical data for the state,he said ”
Governor Oyebanji who said there was the need to regularly monitor the social economic lives of the citizens saying this required a lot of statistics.
He also said that emphasis should be on state specific surveys and censuses on all sectors of the economy, efforts should be made to disaggregate reports of national surveys by gender, zonal and State/LG basis,this will assist leaders of the state to formulate policies relevant to it’s development
The governor explained that the current administration in the State was committed to implementing evidence based projects/Programmes to better the lives of the populace.
“I therefore call on all and sundry to join hands with the government to move the state forward”.
Governor Oyebanji promised that his administration will not delay in attending to the needs of all agencies and institutions of the state that are working on the production of statistics.
He noted that as a step towards the achievements of the goal his Government recently approved fund for the upgrading of the state data centre to make it’s more effective and able to relate well with others statistical agencies outside the state.
The governor who said this kind of interaction aimed at building and strengthening the state statistical system and consolidating on the relationship between the state, agencies on one hand and the federal and researcher institutions on the other was a step in the right direction and the facts that it holds every quarter will definitely make way for a robust and timely data for use.
