In a bid to build a more virile union in Ekiti State, the new chairman of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Kayode Babatuyi has approved the appointments of some union members to serve in three different committees set up by the new executive council.
According to a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Thursday by the Union’s secretary, Comrade O’Seun Ogunsakin, the three committees are the Advisory Council, the Elders Council and the Taskforce against Quackery.
Ogunsakin who said membership of the three committees were thoroughly deliberated on by the new Executive committee before their approval listed the immediate past chairman of the council, Comrade (Lion) Rotimi Ojomoyela, Yaqoub Popoola, Bola Agbaje, Rotimi Feyisina and Yemisi Omotola as members of the Advisory Council while the incumbent Vice President of the Zone B of the Union, Comrade Ronke Samo, a former chairman of the council, Akogun Tai Oguntayo, Tope Babalola, Tunji Saliu and Idowu Ariwodola would serve on the Elders Council.
The Union’s scribe noted that the Advisory council is expected to meet on monthly basis to assess the activities of the union and provide necessary counsel to the Union while the Elders Council is to assist the Union in resolving any conflict that may ensue within the council.
The union equally approved the appointment of Godwin Osubu, Ayo Adegbuyi, Olaniyi Alade, Yemi Olajutemu, Emmanuel Adeniran, Bola Lawal and Abidemi Sikiru as members of the taskforce against quackery. The taskforce is expected to clampdown on the activities of quacks within the media industry in the State.
In another related development, the chairman of the Union, Comrade Babatuyi has appointed Mrs Bukola Aduwo of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) as an Ex-officio of the Union. Others appointed are Olaniyi Alade who is to serve as the Chief of Staff to the chairman, Yomi Ayeleso as Special Adviser on Training and Workshops, and Rasaq Ibrahim as Personal Assistant/ Special Adviser on Special Duties.
The appointments are with immediate effect.
