Ekiti: Islamic Tourism seeks Partnership with Wale Ojo-Lanre on strategies for showcasing cultural, religious heritage

The Ekiti Islamic Tourism Forum on Tuesday  met with Ambassador Wale Ojo-Lanre, the Director General of the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism, Governor’s office , Ado Ekiti.

The delegation, led by Hajia Tawakalit  Bolaji, Alhaji Yusuf Tiamiyu Akewusola, and Alhaji Oladapo Qozeem, sought collaboration with the Bureau to promote Islamic tourism in Ekiti State.

The primary aim of the visit was to discuss strategies for showcasing Ekiti State’s rich cultural and religious heritage while ensuring Halal-friendly tourism services for Muslim travelers.
The forum also aims to” create economic opportunities through tourism, foster cross-cultural understanding, and encourage Muslim participation in travel and exploration while adhering to Islamic principles.”

Speaking at the meeting, Hajia Tawakalot Bolaji emphasized the importance of “faith-conscious travel,” highlighting how “Islamic tourism can drive economic growth and job creation while preserving religious values.”

She stressed that through well-structured initiatives, Ekiti State could become a prime destination for Muslim-friendly tourism.

Alhaji Yusuf Tiamiyu Akewusola further elaborated on the forum’s mission, noting that many Muslims still perceive tourism as a “no-go area.” He explained that the forum seeks to educate, inform, and engage Muslims on the benefits of Islamic tourism, share innovative ideas, and provide updates on the development of Islamic-friendly tourist destinations in Ekiti State.

In response, Ambassador Wale Ojo-Lanre welcomed the delegation and commended the initiative. Drawing from his personal experiences visiting Kaolack Senegal , Jordan , Indonesia, Turkey and other Islamic tourism sites, he acknowledged the significance of Halal tourism. He also highlighted past efforts, including the training of Muslim tour guides, one of whom was Hajia Tawakalot Bolaji, to ensure seamless experiences for Muslim travelers.

To strengthen the forum’s impact, Ambassador Ojo-Lanre encouraged the official launch of the Ekiti Islamic Tourism Forum , pledged the Bureau’s full support in advancing Islamic tourism in the state and tasked them at establishing Halal Restaurant.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward promoting faith-based tourism and positioning Ekiti State as a welcoming destination for Muslim travelers.
