Ekiti: Inmates in Nigeria Correctional Center Appeal to Gov. Oyebanji for Amnesty

Inmates in Nigeria Correctional Center in  Ekiti state have appealed to the State Governor Biodun Oyebanji to have mercy on them by granting them Amnesty.

The spokesperson of the inmates stated this when members of BAO MUSLIM WOMEN PRAYER GROUP visited the correctional center to observe IFTAR with the Muslim inmates.

They said most of them are in the custody “as result of very minor offenses” of which they have changed for good but because they don’t have lawyers to represent them they were kept there.

In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Government house Mosque,Imam AbdulFattah Olorunkemi enjoined the inmates “to keep seeking for the forgiveness of Allah and be hopeful for his mercy.”

The IMAM however told them “not to go back to crime but make themselves useful to the society if they eventually get released from custody.”

In her remark, the Cordinator of BAO MUSLIM WOMEN PRAYER GROUP ALH. Zainab Ogunlayi who led members of the group said “the visit was to enable the inmates break their fast with food and water donated which is one of what Allah has commanded.”
