A Renowned Dental Surgeon in the Ekiti State Hospitals’ Management Board, Dr Clement Owoeye has appealed to the Governor of Ekiti, Biodun Oyebanji and the acting Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Olubunmi Shittu to intervene in his Son’s academic pursuit, David Owoeye who was denied admission at the University, despite having an aggregate score of 84.
Speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti, Dr Owoeye, explained that his son scored 300 in Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME 2025) and an aggregate score of 84 to study Medicine and Surgery at his first choice University for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Dr Owoeye noted that while the aggregate cut off mark is 84.65, he appealed that the fraction of 0.65 should not deny his son from studying his dream course, not even now when only 16 candidates scored above the cut off mark, despite the maximum quota of 50 students for the department in the University, as approval by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCAN) in 2023.
The Doctor also pleaded with the State Governor that his Son should also be part of the remaining 32 students that would fill the quota for the department, emphasizing that fractions should not serve as yardsticks to disqualify brilliant students from pursuing their dream courses.
He described the Governor as a competent Leader who believes in education and youth empowerment, hailing his giant strides across the sectors aimed at making the lives of Ekiti residents better.
Owoeye revealed other details of his son to include: 202551229684IA as JAMB registration number, C18411126 as Examination Number and Ekiti South West as Local Government.
His words, “I want to use this opportunity to call on the Governor, His Excellency Biodun Oyebanji to please intervene in my Son’s academic pursuit at FUOYE, David Owoeye who was denied admission because he scored 84 out of the 84.65 designated as the cut off mark for Medicine and Surgery.
“From my findings, only 16 students scored above the cut off marks, which is not even up to the maximum quota of 50 students for the department in the University, as approval by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCAN) in 2023.
“We are not attacking the School for anything, we are only making an appeal to the School management to have mercy on us, students like my son should not be denied admission because of a fraction of 0.65, they should please look into this matter”.
