Ekiti Assembly Declares Commitment to Qualitative Legislation for People’s interest

The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Steven Aribasoye has said that the current assembly under his leadership is committed to qualitative legislation and mutual relationship with other arms of government in the interest of Ekiti people.

Aribasoye who spoke while receiving leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State Council led by the Chairman, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi noted that the assembly will continue to play her role as check to the executive without being cantankerous.

He noted that some of the various achievements recorded so far were just a tips of an iceberg compared to his vision, saying the assembly is committed to introducing new laws that will.makenlife better for the people.

He stated  that the House now operates on a digital level as members of the public can now observe their plenary sittings online from any location and also give necessary suggestions and feedback.

The speaker confirmed that a cross section of bills has been passed by the assembly to address some sharp practices in the society among which is the Land Grabbing law.

He added that the welfare of the workers was also a top priority adding that lawmakers now have a special time where the house permit them to return home and have a mandatory engagement with their constituents and give report of their activities before the house as part of measures to ensure improved accessibility by constituents to their representatives.

Aribasoye showed journalists round to see the ongoing remodeling work at the assembly complex and the Assembly Service Commission which he said if completed would rank among the best in the country.

According to him, before he became the speaker, the offices of the lawmakers were not conducive and nothing to write home about hence the need for the remodeling through the support of the Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

He sought the support of the media to project the assembly positively to the world with a promise to continue to support the media.

Earlier, the Chairman NUJ, Ekiti State, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, thanked the speaker for the support for individual journalists and the union calling for more robust relationship.

He sought better welfare for journalists in the assembly which was approved immediately by the speaker.
