The Permanent Secretary, Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Mr Michael Omolayo has advised well-meaning individuals and philanthropists in the state to contribute meaningfully to the
development of education.
Omolayo gave the advice at the presentation of scholarship award of
payment of NECO examination fees for 40 students from Ipoti High School
and Ipoti Community Secondary School, both in Ipoti Ekiti.
The Permanent Secretary who commended the donor, Mr and Dr (Mrs)
Olusola Faleye for the largess said that the gesture was a remarkable
support for the the huge investment of government in the sector at
promoting human capital development and as well create better future
for the students.
While reiterating the commitment of the present administration for the
advancement of education in Ekiti State, Omolayo said government has
stepped up the delivery of instructional materials in schools and the
provision of free UTME/JAMB forms for students seeking admission to
tertiary institutions.
He stressed further that government has also taken over the payment
for Senior Secondary Schools Certificate Examination (SSCE) fees of
all the SS3 students in all the public secondary schools across the
state, calling on the parents and students to reciprocate the gesture
by making a judicious use of the various opportunities provided by the
stakeholders to attain outstanding performance at the end of their
secondary education.
In her welcome address, the principal of Ipoti High School, Mrs
Florence Omoniyi charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of
the kind assistance at boosting their efforts to attaining excellent
results for them to become great in life.
The Principal disclosed that benefiting students were selected through
screening exercises involving written and oral examinations appealing
to the students to be diligent, punctual and obedient to the authority
of the schools.
In his welcome address, the donor of the awards, who was represented
by Chief Stephen Adaramola described the donor, who he said was a ‘son
of the soil’, and an old student of the school based outside the
country,as a philanthropist who is interested in human development.
He explained that the foundation is committed to learning, discipline
and compassion, describing the award as a way to promote good behavior
and instill the spirit of competitiveness among the students.
Adaramola highlighted some of the achievements of foundation since
2020 to include payment of NECO examination fees for 50 pupils in 2020
and 2021, free coaching classes for all SS3 students in both schools,
distribution of 2000 exercise books to students and sponsorship of 20
students in tertiary institutions.
He admonished other students not qualified for current edition to
brace up and prepare well as the foundation was ready to increase the
number of beneficiaries in future competitions.
Forty students benefited from both schools with twenty three of them
selected from Ipoti High School while the remaining seventeen came
from Ipoti Community Secondary School.
