Comedian Aiza Nwosu killed by unknown Assailants in Anambra, as Police launch Manhunt

Popular Anambra comedian and media personality, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza Nwosu, has reportedly been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Awka, Anambra State.

Nwosu, according to report was attacked on SM Okeke Street on Sunday, August 30, while driving his Hilux truck, which was fitted with loudspeakers.

His death reportedly occurred amid multiple attacks in Awka, the Anambra State capital, which left three other people dead and several others injured.

Also, two men were earlier reportedly shot dead in the Amaenyi area, with the incident triggering a stampede that allegedly left several people injured.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants, numbering about three, trailed the victims in a vehicle with tinted windows before shooting. This has raised concerns of cult-related violence.

He reportedly died inside his vehicle after being shot, while music continued to blare from the sound system. His truck was said to have ended up in a ditch, suggesting that he was caught off guard.

Nwosu was well known in Awka for driving around the city, making announcements and entertaining residents with music through the loudspeakers fitted to his vehicle.

While several people reportedly maintained that the comedian had no history of cult membership, others claimed that his son was allegedly a member of the Vikings Confraternity.

Awka has experienced previous cult-related clashes that have claimed several lives.

As of the time of filing this report, police authorities had yet to officially comment on the incidents. The killings were reportedly carried out by the same assailants, although the motive behind the attacks remains uncertain as of press time.

The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident on Monday in a statement.

“The Anambra State Police Command has condemned in the strongest terms the gunshot attacks carried out by unidentified gunmen in Awka, the State capital, on Sunday, August 30, 2026, which resulted in the deaths of two persons.

“The command has consequently intensified the ongoing manhunt for the perpetrators and is calling for the support and cooperation of members of the public to assist in bringing the suspects to justice.

“Information gathered so far reveals that three unidentified persons, travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla, with registration number yet to be ascertained, reportedly shot two persons at separate locations within Awka.”

He said the command quickly deployed security operatives to the affected areas to apprehend the assailants upon receipt receiving of distress information.

Ikenga added, “Upon arrival at the scenes, the operatives recovered the bodies of the victims along Capital City Road, Amaenyi, and S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, Awka, respectively.

“The victims were taken to a hospital, where they were subsequently confirmed dead by medical personnel.

“While one of the victims is yet to be identified, the second victim has been identified as Isaac Nwosu, male, also known as ‘Azia’.

“The operatives also recovered from the scene the sum of ₦7,550, one Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers.”
