The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Ayomide Kamula, over the alleged rape of a 19-year-old woman in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo.
The command also launched a manhunt for an alleged accomplice, identified as Boye Balogun, who reportedly fled after the incident.
According to the police in a statement posted on its X handle on Thursday, the incident occurred on August 30, 2026, at the victim’s residence in Odo Idi Scale, Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo.
The victim’s mother reported the matter at the Ijebu-Igbo Police Division on Tuesday, September 1, at about 10:10 a.m., following which operatives commenced an investigation
The police said officers immediately visited and secured the scene of the alleged crime to gather relevant evidence.
The command said the victim was subsequently taken to the General Hospital for medical examination and care, with a Police Medical Form issued as part of the investigation.
Following preliminary inquiries, police operatives tracked down and arrested Kamula, who is currently in custody undergoing interrogation
The police said, “Robust operational measures and intelligence-led searches have been intensified to track down and apprehend the fleeing co-suspect.”
The case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the alleged offence and reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance towards sexual and gender-based violence.
Ojajuni described sexual and gender-based violence as “an egregious crime that will not be tolerated under any circumstance.”
The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling sexual offences across the state, saying, “The Command maintains a zero-tolerance policy against sexual offences across the state.”
Ojajuni assured the victim’s family and members of the public that “a thorough, discreet investigation is underway.”
He further stated that “no stone will be left unturned” in ensuring that the fleeing suspect is apprehended and brought to justice.
The police urged members of the public with credible information about the whereabouts of the fleeing suspect to contact the command.
