Members of the 2001 Set of Ado Grammar School, Ado-Ekiti have donated campus benches and educational materials to their alma mater as part of activities marking their 25th anniversary and homecoming celebration.
The alumni said the project, executed in memory of their departed classmates, was aimed at improving the school’s learning environment and encouraging a culture of giving back to educational institutions.
Presenting the gifts on behalf of the association, the outgoing President, Mr. Abiodun Olofe, said the initiative was driven by the collective desire of the old students to make the school a model worthy of emulation.
He noted that the reunion also provided an opportunity for members to reconnect and interact with the current students, sharing experiences and inspiring them to pursue excellence.
Addressing students during the school’s assembly, Olofe urged them to remain disciplined, hardworking and focused on their studies.
Recalling his days as a student of the institution, he encouraged them to take their education seriously, stressing that diligence and good character remain the foundation for future success.
He described the memorial campus benches as a unique project in honour of the association’s late colleagues and assured the school that the alumni would continue to support infrastructural development and other initiatives capable of enhancing teaching and learning.
The Principal of the school, Mrs. Ademiluyi Adenike, commended the alumni for their generosity and commitment to the growth of their alma mater.
She called on other successful old students and well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture by investing in the development of public schools.
A former teacher of the set, Mr. Tope Oyewole, who inaugurated the project, expressed appreciation to the alumni for remembering the school that nurtured them, describing the donation as a demonstration of gratitude and enduring sportsmanship.
Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr. Omoyajowo Abiodun, represented by Okebiorun Temidayo, disclosed that over ₦2 million was spent on the project and appealed to students and the school management to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities.
In addition to the campus benches, the association donated educational materials to support learning in the school.
The event also featured the election of a new executive council to steer the affairs of the association for the next four years, with Mr. Remi Ayeni emerging as the new President of the set.
