Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has described the 2026 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a model of organisation and security, crediting its success to detailed planning and strategic innovations.
Abiodun, who chaired the Venue Subcommittee for the convention, made the remarks on the sidelines of the event held at Eagle Square. He explained that the committee carried out a comprehensive review of past conventions to identify recurring challenges, particularly in crowd control and security management.
According to the governor, the subcommittee conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the venue shortly after inauguration, which informed a complete redesign of the arena layout. He noted that simulations were carried out to test the movement of about 12,000 participants, ensuring smooth entry and exit throughout the event.
“We identified weak areas from past experiences and redesigned the arena to eliminate them. The goal was to deliver a seamless and world-class convention,” he said.
Abiodun further disclosed that specific entry points were allocated to different categories of attendees, while emergency exit routes were also incorporated. Surveillance cameras were strategically installed within and around the venue to enhance monitoring and strengthen security.
Describing the convention as highly successful, he revealed that approximately 11,000 participants attended, including 8,400 delegates, 1,800 committee members, and 200 VIPs. He also commended President Bola Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him, noting that the successful event reflects the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In her remarks, Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele described the convention as unprecedented, highlighting the participation of delegates from all 36 states and praising the planning team for delivering a befitting event.
Also speaking, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu commended the convention as a hallmark gathering, attributing its success to effective leadership and meticulous coordination by the organising committee.
