Adamawa guber poll: Police Grant administrative bail to INEC REC, Yunusa-Ari

The Suspended Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa state, Barr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari, who had been in police custody over allegations of impropriety during the supplementary governorship election in the state, has been granted administrative bail.

This was disclosed in a press statement by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

The statement reads : “The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) hereby confirms that Barr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the suspended Adamawa state REC, who has been in custody for interrogations by the police in the course of investigations into allegations of impropriety during the supplementary gubernatorial pools in the state, has been granted administrative bail by the Police while investigations subsist.

“He is expected to report at the Police Headquarters every weekday while investigations are ongoing on the matter.”

Yunusa-Ari was arrested, Tuesday, by the Police Election Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Team.

 

His arrest followed calls by INEC for investigation on the basis of alleged impropriety in the course of supplementary governorship.

He had announced a wrong result declaring the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the election.

According to the police spokesperson, he was being grilled to ascertain the motives and motivations behind his actions, just other officials and individuals culpable in the saga were also being interrogated by the team.

“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usma Baba, has given clear assurance that every individual involved/indicted in the matter will be apprehended and investigated in line with the provisions of the law for possible prosecution.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Baba, has assured of the commitment of the Force to ensuring that justice is served in this case and that all guilty parties are brought to justice,” Adejobi stated.
