The Ogun State Government has released an additional ₦5.83 billion for gratuity and Additional Pension Benefits, bringing its total commitment to pension-related payments to ₦157.9 billion since May 29, 2019.
The Head of Service, Mr Olanrewaju Saka, disclosed this in a statement, explaining that the latest release was approved at the September 24, 2026 meeting of the Joint Accounts Allocation Committee (JAAC).
He said the funds were part of the state government’s efforts to clear outstanding retirement benefits and improve the welfare of pensioners who served the state.
According to Saka, ₦4.907 billion of the approved amount would be used to pay gratuities to Local Government pensioners who retired in 2022 and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) retirees who left service in 2021.
The remaining ₦918.6 million was earmarked for Additional Pension Benefits for eligible retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
Saka added that the Abiodun administration had released ₦4.12 billion in Additional Pension Benefits to CPS retirees since the beginning of 2026.
Giving a breakdown of the state’s cumulative pension-related expenditure, the Head of Service said ₦29.12 billion had been paid as gratuity to 7,390 beneficiaries, while ₦105.39 billion had gone into pension payments for 16,420 beneficiaries.
He further disclosed that ₦7.78 billion was committed to CPS deductions for 29,883 beneficiaries between July 2025 and August 2026.
Other payments included ₦3.33 billion for Accrued Pension Rights to 2,567 beneficiaries, ₦5.04 billion for arrears of CPS deductions and ₦1.35 billion in Returns on Investment.
The government also spent ₦584.85 million on death benefits and other payments for 160 beneficiaries, while ₦1.32 billion was provided as palliatives.
Additional Pension Benefits paid to 709 beneficiaries amounted to approximately ₦4 billion during the period under review.
Saka clarified that the ₦45.5 billion figure represented the broader amount committed to gratuity payments for Local Government and SUBEB retirees since 2019, while the ₦157.9 billion covered all pension-related categories.
He said the sustained investment reflected Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to honouring the state’s retirement obligations and ensuring that senior citizens who contributed to Ogun State’s development were treated with dignity.
The Head of Service assured retirees that the government would continue to meet its obligations and utilise available resources to address outstanding pension and gratuity payments.
