The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Lagos State, Prince Adedayo Ladega, has awarded bursaries to 200 students from the area studying in various tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The presentation of the bursaries took place on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, as part of activities commemorating the first year of the administration.
Speaking at the presentation, Ladega described the scheme as an investment in the future of the beneficiaries and the continued development of Ikorodu.
“Today is about our students and their future. When we invest in education, we are not only supporting individual students; we are investing in the future capacity, progress and development of Ikorodu,” he said.
Ladega said the bursary scheme formed part of his administration’s efforts to reduce barriers to education and create opportunities for young people to pursue their academic aspirations.
According to a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Akeem Mustapha, the administration’s education interventions also include the provision of GCE and JAMB forms, free GCE and JAMB tutorial programmes, and the completion of a six-classroom block at Anglican Primary School, awaiting commissioning.
The statement also noted the administration’s youth skills development initiatives, stressing the importance of combining academic education with practical skills to prepare young people for opportunities in an increasingly competitive world.
Ladega said the interventions reflected the Education component of the administration’s SEED Agenda and complemented the human capital development objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He urged the beneficiaries to remain focused on their studies and make good use of the opportunity.
The event was attended by council officials, education stakeholders, community leaders, parents, student representatives and beneficiaries.
