The Ekiti State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has disclosed that it would on Tuesday begin an enforcement patrol to clampdown on non-journalists who use the Union’s car stickers and parade fake identity cards.
A statement co-signed by the Union’s Chairman, Com. Kayode Babatuyi and Secretary, Com. O’Seun Ogunsakin stated that the Abiodun Olofe-led Anti-quackery committee would be supported by personnel of the Police, Civil Defense and Road Safety to ensure the enforcement is hitch-free.
The Union stated that the enforcement is vital to ensure public safety and protect citizens from the hazards of counterfeit services.
It added that during the operation, the Anti-quackery team would verify the identity cards and press stickers on vehicles of individuals claiming to be media practitioners.
To prevent embarrassment, the NUJ urges all practicing journalists to carry their valid NUJ Identity Cards during the exercise.
The Union reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest standards of journalism and would not tolerate activities that bring the profession into disrepute.
