Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has disclosed his plans to set up a mental health therapy centre for formerly popular and successful celebrities.
The 38-year-old Afrobeat singer made this revelation while speaking on the intense pressure of fame and the criticism faced by football icon Cristiano Ronaldo during the ongoing World Cup.
Davido expressed concern over the psychological toll of celebrity life, particularly the struggle to remain relevant after reaching the top, emphasising the difficulty of maintaining public approval despite significant achievements.
The “Owo Baba Olowo” crooner added that he regularly prays for the wisdom to know when to step away from music at the peak of his career.
“If there is one thing I could do, I would build a centre for people who have been popular and very successful before,” he said.
“A centre for them to have like therapy…because it’s crazy being on top of the world and the next moment you’re not. Even in football, you win all these awards, Champions League, World Cup and people still don’t feel like it’s enough.
“Like, look at Ronaldo, when he left the World Cup, he’s my friend by the way, when he left the World Cup, I remember being on the internet, and they were abusing him so much,” he said.
“After everything he has done. That’s my greatest fear. I worked too hard. I always ask God to just tell me the right time to…”, Davido said.
