Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has secured a major political endorsement ahead of the 2027 general elections as leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District formally adopted him as the consensus candidate for the senatorial seat.
The endorsement was announced on Tuesday during a gathering of party leaders, delegates, and stakeholders from across the district, who described the decision as a strategic move aimed at ensuring quality representation and strengthening unity within the party.
The event was attended by prominent APC figures, including the party’s consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, former deputy governors Yetunde Onanuga, Segun Adesegun, and Gbenga Kaka, as well as the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, Deputy Chairman, Chief James Dina, Senator Lekan Mustapha, and the APC Chairman in Ogun East, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin.
Speaking during the meeting, former Deputy Governor Segun Adesegun said members of the party across Ogun East unanimously agreed to adopt Governor Abiodun as the APC consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.
Also speaking, Senator Lekan Mustapha explained that the decision reflected the collective will of stakeholders in the district who believe the governor would offer effective and quality representation at the National Assembly.
He recalled that leaders in Ogun East had earlier met on April 20 and unanimously resolved to adopt Abiodun as the preferred senatorial candidate of the party, adding that the latest gathering was organised to formally convey the decision to the governor and the state leadership of the APC.
In his remarks, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin formally presented Governor Abiodun to the Ogun State APC leadership and urged the party to forward his name to the national secretariat as the party’s flag bearer for Ogun East Senatorial District.
Responding, Governor Abiodun expressed appreciation to party leaders, stakeholders, and delegates for the confidence reposed in him, describing the endorsement as a sign of unity, political maturity, and commitment to the progress of Ogun East and the state at large.
The governor pledged not to disappoint the people if elected to represent the district in the Senate, assuring them of purposeful and people-oriented representation capable of attracting more development to the area.
Abiodun also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting Ogun State since the beginning of his administration and commended leaders of the district for prioritising unity and cohesion within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
He further assured party members that he would continue to work closely with stakeholders across the senatorial district to sustain the developmental achievements already recorded in the state.
The governor equally thanked Senator Olamilekan Adeola, former deputy governors, party executives, elders, and stakeholders for their solidarity and support, expressing confidence that the APC would remain strong and victorious in Ogun State.
