Residents of Gbonyin Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have expressed relief and appreciation following the commencement of a comprehensive road grading exercise initiated by the Council Chairman, Hon. Benedict Oluwadamilare Ajayi.
The project, which commenced today, targets several untarred roads across major communities and farm settlements within the council area, aimed at improving accessibility and facilitating economic activities at the grassroots level.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Hon. Ajayi noted that the initiative forms part of his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development and improved living standards for residents.
According to him, the grading exercise will address the long-standing challenges faced by motorists, farmers, traders, and residents, particularly during the rainy season when many of the roads become difficult to navigate.
“We are determined to make our roads motorable and safe for our people. Good roads are essential for economic growth, access to healthcare, education, and other social services,” the Chairman stated.
Community leaders who witnessed the exercise commended the council for responding promptly to their concerns. One resident described the intervention as timely, noting that the grading exercise would ease the difficulties faced by motorists and other road users across the council area.
Transport operators also welcomed the development, stating that improved road conditions would help reduce vehicle damage and ensure smoother movement of goods and passengers.
Speaking on the exercise, the Director of Works in the Council, QS Bunmi Olonilua, confirmed that the grading operation would be carried out in phases, with priority given to high-traffic and economically significant routes.
She added that the exercise would be closely monitored to ensure that the contractor delivers the project according to specification.
Hon. Ajayi, however, called on residents to support the initiative by protecting public infrastructure and maintaining proper drainage systems to prolong the lifespan of the roads.
