The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, has announced an annual public lecture in honor of Chief Akin Fasae, the state’s first Chief Press Secretary and a trailblazer in Nigerian journalism.
NUJ Ekiti Chairman, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, made the announcement during the formal presentation of the notification letter to Chief Fasae. He noted that the initiative had been approved by NUJ’s National President, Alhaji Alhassan Yahaya, following a resolution of the State Executive Council.

The lecture, titled “Chief Biodun Akin Fasae Annual Lecture,” will feature distinguished speakers, panel discussions, and audience engagement. The inaugural edition is scheduled for March 26, 2026, at Sanni Abacha Hall, Old Governor’s Office, Okebarike, Ado Ekiti. Hon. Akintunde Rotimi, representing Oye/Ikole at the National Assembly, will deliver the keynote address.
“The lecture aims to celebrate Chief Fasae’s legacy, promote media professionalism and ethics, and inspire journalists and communication practitioners in Ekiti and beyond,” Babatuyi said.
He added that the program would strengthen ethical journalism, enhance public communication, and ensure Chief Fasae’s legacy continues to guide future generations.
Chief Fasae, who has practiced journalism for over fifteen years, expressed gratitude for the honor. “I am encouraged to continue contributing to the development of NUJ and the journalism profession,” he said.
Babatuyi highlighted Chief Fasae’s enduring impact on journalism in Ekiti. “A strong foundation is crucial. NUJ stands today as both a professional body and a trade union, thanks to leaders like Chief Fasae. His guidance reflects true leadership,” he remarked.
The lecture will rotate annually, include awards for outstanding contributions, and is expected to attract leading journalists and communication experts. Babatuyi noted that the event could grow to national prominence, potentially drawing the attention of the President of Nigeria.
The State Council also acknowledged the technical advisory body that supported the program’s rollout. Babatuyi concluded with a personal tribute, emphasizing Chief Fasae’s mentorship and lasting influence in the body.
