The Ekiti State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has disclosed plans to decorate the wife of legal icon and founder of Afe Babalola University Ado Ekiti, Yeye Are Modupe Babalola as its Matron.
In a statement co-signed by the Union’s Chairman, Kayode Babatuyi and the Secretary, O’Seun Ogunsakin, the Union said its decision to decorate Babalola was borne out of her consistent demonstration of deep understanding of the critical roles which journalists play in shaping the narrative of the nation.
The Union said Babalola’s visionary leadership and commitment to promoting a culture of excellence in journalism have been truly inspiring; noting that her passion for the welfare of journalists and their families is a beacon of hope for the union.
Yeye Aare will be officially decorated on the 14th of October, 2025 at the Senate Chamber of the Afe Babalola University,Ado Ekiti by 10am.
“As Matron of the Ekiti State Council of NUJ, we are optimistic that Yeye Are Modupe Babalola will continue to provide guidance and support to our union, leveraging her wealth of experience and influence to promote the interests of journalists in Ekiti State. The decoration and presentation of Award of Excellence will be performed by the Secretary to the Government of Ekiti State, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro on 14th October, 2025.
