Ekiti High Court Judge Accused in ₦200M Adultery Lawsuit

Justice Oluwasegun Isaac Ogunyemi of the Ekiti State High Court has been named as a co-respondent in a lawsuit alleging adultery and the breakdown of a marriage.

The case was filed by Professor Babalola Abegunde, who addressed journalists after the first hearing of his petition at the Ekiti State High Court in Ado-Ekiti. Prof. Abegunde alleged that Justice Ogunyemi had an extramarital affair with his wife, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Olayemi Abegunde (née Olorunshola), a legal practitioner, which he claims led to the collapse of their marriage.

Abegunde stated that he had approached the court to seek dissolution of the marriage on grounds of adultery and non-consummation. He is also requesting custody of the youngest child from the marriage and demanding ₦200 million in damages from Justice Ogunyemi for alleged emotional distress and moral damage resulting from the affair.

The case, presided over by Justice Niyi Familoni, has been adjourned until October 2025 for further proceedings.

While expressing confidence in the presiding judge, Prof. Abegunde called for a fair and impartial hearing as the matter unfolds.
