…urges FG to heed students” call for lkole-Oye road repair, end to power outage in host communities
Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina has warned 8,737 fresh students of the University to eschew all acts of cultism on campus even as they become bonafide students of the University through the matriculation ceremony today, November 14, 2024. He declared that any student found culpable of secret cult activities will face expulsion.
The VC issued the stern warning to the students during the 14th matriculation ceremony of the University which was witnessed by representatives of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The fresh students have been admitted into
13 faculties of the University. The VC said:”
As we all know, at the heart of the establishment of the University lies the non- negotiable objective of providing quality higher educational services and accessibility to the country’s growing youth population. Our beloved University has been living up to this responsibility in terms of Faculty and new academic programmes, despite the global constraints which we face. “
“…Consequently, the University has progressively established itself as an undisputable centre of attraction for prospective students across all the states of the federation. Little wonder that in the latest JAMB subscription ranking, our University ranked as the third most-subscribed University in Nigeria, with over 54,410 applicants, beating most first and second generation Universities in the process.
“Our target is to consolidate on this momentum and never rest on our oars until our University becomes the leading academic institution in Nigeria and beyond.
We aspire to be established as the bastion of knowledge and skills acquisition for innovations, so that our growing
youth population is prepared and equipped for global competitiveness. Our efforts have been commendably facilitated by the
invaluable support of the Government, our amiable Governing Council under the
leadership of Engr Kayode Ojo, the Management Team, our reliable Faculty and
Staff led by our indefatigable Provost, Deans, Directors, Heads of various
Departments and Units; as well as our teeming Student population, friends of the
University (both home and abroad) and, importantly, our traditional leaders
(Kabiesi) and community members who have been our hosts and allies.”
“To the matriculating students today, you are the actors in this journey of academic
pursuit. In the coming days and years, the challenges necessary to refine you in
character and learning will stare unabashedly at you. So, do not flinch because you are the protagonist and must strive to interpret your role as a student worthy of the admission and the resulting award of a degree upon completion while we shall be directing you through your stay in this movie theatre of academic pursuit,
“ I assure you that we have a formidable team to help you interpret your scripts and hone your skills to produce the best performance possible. In the same vein, I urge you to commit to the terms of your studentship by promptly subscribing to due charges. In between, respect our rules and regulations and be diligent in your studies. Eschew all forms of social vices, including cultism, sexual harrassment, Advance Fee Fraud and Internet Fraud (pka 419), examination malpractices, indecent dressing, etc. Our University has zero tolerance for these and related social vices.
“Always consult the Students’ Handbook for guidance. I wish you all the best.
Let me now officially congratulate all the matriculating students, their parents and guardians, as well as friends and well-wishers. As you celebrate this momentous day, I urge you all to do everything with moderation and always reflect on my
admonitions. May the peace of God abide with all of us. Amen.”
Asked to comment on the students’ recent call on the Federal Emergency Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to repair bad lkole-Oye road and end power outage in Oye and lkole communities, he said he urged the federal agencies involved to do the needful.
