The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) said former governor of Kano State, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is inconsequential in Nigeria politics to think of winning the 2027 presidency.
The party stated this in reaction to the claim by Kwankwaso that PDP was dead and is weighed down by crisis, and said this would pave way for him to win the 2027 presidential election.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, in a statement issued on Sunday, told Kwankwaso to first take control of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the platform he contested in the 2023 presidential election, before thinking of the 2027 presidency.
It would be recalled that Kwankwaso is battling with the founder of the party, Aniebonam over the control of the NNPP.
PDP said, “It is unfathomable to imagine that a failed and inconsequential politician with only one state would claim that a party that has 13 governors, many Senators, many members of the House of Representatives, several states Assembly control and strong presence in all the Local Government Areas and wards across the country is dead
“More disturbing is that Senator Kwankwaso has exhibited extreme selfishness and self-centeredness which shows that he is not a leader.”
The party described as unfortunate that at a time when Nigerians were condemning the excruciating hardship in the country occasioned by the anti-people policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, and while Nigerians including in Senator Kwankwaso’s home State, Kano were dying of hunger and starvation, and over 150 million Nigerians have sunk into poverty, the only thing that occupies Kwankwaso’s mind is his self-centered pipe dream of becoming president
It reminded the former governor that millions of Nigerians were daily losing their means of livelihood, naira the national currency fallen to over N1,600 to a dollar with over 34 percent inflation rate, while the price of petrol increased to over N1,200 in various parts of the country.
PDP however said it does not intend to join issues with Kwankwaso on such display of self-centeredness and insensitivity, adding, “In any event, whatever political relevance Sen. Kwankwaso believes he has achieved, he did so only when he was in the PDP.”
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) chairman in Kano State Hashimu Dungurawa has said the party will field Musa Kwankwaso in the 2027 presidential election. At an interactive session with journalists in Kano yesterday, he insisted that the former governor remains the only person in the party who has what.
