Fayemi
The Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly,Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, has congratulated former Governor Kayode Fayemi on the prestigious honourary degree to be bestowed on him by Lagos State University (LASU).
Aribasoye emphasized that Fayemi being garlanded with such respectable academic laurel, was a loud attestation to his national worth as a superlative administrator, academic, politician and public servant.
The Ekiti’s number three man, said this in his congratulatory message to Fayemi, on Thursday, and signed by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Olamide Aribisala.
The management of LASU will today decorate Fayemi with honourary Doctorate Degree to mark the institution’s 40th anniversary and 26th convocation ceremonies.
The Speaker while felicitating Fayemi posited that the honour should be a gravitating force for him to rededicate himself to serve the nation more as he had always done.
Aribasoye described Fayemi as a leader with clairvoyance , whose contributions to the educational growth of the country remained a benchmark as a teacher and Governor, who added value to Ekiti’s education sector .
He commended the LASU’s management for considering Fayemi worthy of being invested with such honour, saying this would help in propelling intellectually- inclined Nigerians to make huge and pivotal contributions to education sector.
Aribasoye alluded to Fayemi as one leader and personality, who places education in a premium position, saying the honour was well thought-out and not misplaced .
The Speaker added that honouring personalities like Fayemi, who have great respect for scholarship would help in driving Nigeria to greatness and make the country’s education sector attains respectable global status .
Aribasoye said: “Let me on behalf of myself, family and political associates congratulate ex-Governor Kayode Fayemi on this meritorious feat. It was a honour that would further add glamour to his many academic laurels.
“Fayemi as Ekiti governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum wrote many academic books to demonstrate his penchant for academic growth and expansion of scholarship. This he did despite his very tight and busy schedules.
“Having a deep retrospect of his administration, former Governor Fayemi, was the first to embark on operation renovate all Schools in Ekiti, so that our children can have a strong and rocky academic foundation before seeking higher degrees.
“During his reign as a governor, Fayemi instituted many far-reaching policies and programmes that launched the higher educaction to a lofty pedestal. It was during his time that a robust scholarship board was set up to sponsor thousands of students up to the PhD level.
“In fulfilment of the growth of well educationally groomed manpower for Nigeria, his administration established the Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan-Ekiti, and the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti.
“For children to have unfettered access to secondary education, his administration constructed five new model colleges, with three others being built in the three senatorial zones.
“Over 900 blocks of classrooms were rehabilitated with sanitary, water, and fencing facilities, just as all schools in Ekiti have been supplied with furniture and instructional materials. It is noteworthy that education is free and compulsory for all children up to senior secondary school level.
“Looking at the trajectory of these enigmatic contributions, Fayemi remains an academic icon who worths being celebrated. This is one honour well earned. I congratulate him very profoundly on this achievement”.
