Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has shared photos of herself, her two children and her grandchild as she reflects on her journey as a mother.
Taking to her official Instagram page, Iyabo described motherhood as a beautiful journey, saying that when she looks back at where she started, she can only say she is a testimony to God’s greatness.
Iyabo added that her story is hope to the hopeless, and a voice of encouragement to every mother out there raising her children alone against all odds.
“Motherhood is indeed a beautiful journey. When I look back at where I started, I can only say, Alice Iyabo, you are a testimony to God’s greatness. Your story is hope to the hopeless, and a voice of encouragement to every mother out there raising her children alone against all odds.
“To every struggling mother reading this: Hold on, there is light at the end of the tunnel”.
Iyabo Ojo got married to Ademidun Ojo, the father of her two children (Festus and Priscilla), in 1999 when she was 21 years old
The couple separated and divorced around 2001, shortly after their daughter’s birth, and Iyabo Ojo raised the children as a single mother.
Iyabo Ojo has been vocal about the stigma attached to single mothers and recounted how people called her all manner of names because of her failed marriage, both in the movie industry and the world at large.
She has also provided moral support and encouragement to single mothers, as she noted how single motherhood can be depressing, discouraging, upsetting, and rough.
During her daughter’s baby shower, Iyabo had advised mothers and women on breaking the generational curse for their children.
Iyabo Ojo cautioned women not to assume that because a certain thing happened to their mother, it would happen to them, and that it must happen to their children.
In a beautiful note to mothers, she stated that no amount of sacrifice or struggle can compare to the unconditional love their children will give back, as their love is a reflection of God’s love for them.
The 48-year-old actress reminded them that God will never leave their side and that their children’s lives and devotion are a testament to His presence in their lives.
