A human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has assured Nigerians that he will bring back the fuel subsidy if elected in 2027.
Sowore, the Publisher of Sahara Reporters and a strong voice against bad governance, gave this assurance on Monday on his verified X handle.
Sowore’s comment is coming days after the Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, also assured revival of fuel subsidy if elected, and the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Oluwole Adebayo, pledged that fuel will be sold for N200 if elected.
Atiku has proposed restoring a form of subsidy targeted at domestic refiners.
According to the human rights activist, his administration would set the minimum wage at N500,000 per month for Nigerian workers if elected.
“Attempts to water down our proposal for a N500,000 monthly living wage with funny statistics will not change our position.
“Under our government, Nigerian workers will earn a minimum wage of at least N500,000 monthly. We will also restore the petrol subsidy.
“Workers deserve wages they can actually live on,” Sowore noted.
However, the presidential candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Seyi Makinde, have said they would not return to the old subsidy regime if elected.
