The former Aviation Minister and High Commissioner to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, has warned South African authorities to halt the killings of Nigerian citizens in the country.
Speaking in a statement issued on Saturday, Fani-Kayode, emphasized that Nigeria has showed patience over the spate of xenophobic mob attacks on its citizens in South Africa was ‘Wearing thin’.
The former Minister made this remark in reaction to the recent killings of Nigerian Bishop, Michael Taiwo Fakunle, and James Uchechukwu Nwankwo in Johannesburg, South Africa.
According to sources, the Nigerian bishop was killed in his home in Kensington, Johannesburg, on Friday, September 4.
Similarly, Nwankwo was murdered the following day during an incident involving officers of the South African Police
The Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa revealed that the cleric was shot several times after two suspects allegedly gained access to his home.
Responding, Fani-Kayode said he was “mortified and deeply shocked” by the bishop’s killing.
He stated that Fakunle had reportedly received threats before the attack.
“I am equally shocked to hear about the murder of Mr James Uchechukwu Nwankwo by officers of the South African Police Service again in Johannesburg on September 5,” he said.
