The National President of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Comrade Sola Adigun, has commended the contributions of the Ekiti State Government to the development of the education sector and the welfare of teachers.
Speaking in Ado-Ekiti, during the interactive ‘S’etigbo’ multicast anchored by the Bureau of Community Communications, Adigun highlighted several interventions by the administration, particularly in the areas of teachers’ welfare, infrastructure and the regular payment of salaries.
He noted that the government has also increased the amount available to workers under the car and housing loan schemes, describing the initiative as a significant step towards improving the welfare of teachers.
According to him:” the provision of buses to convey teachers and students to various schools, particularly following the removal of fuel subsidy, has also provided significant relief to the workers”, noting that the transportation service has been provided free of charge.
The ASUSS President called for further government intervention in some areas stressing the need for continuous training and retraining of teachers to enhance their professional capacity and improve the quality of education.
Adigun called for continuity of improved payment of leave bonuses to teachers and other workers adding that this would complement the achievements recorded so far and ensure better welfare and working conditions for teachers in the state.
He described teachers as guardians and mentors who work in partnership with government and parents to nurture students during school hours, called for greater collaboration among teachers, parents and government noting that the shared responsibility of raising children is essential to addressing challenges in the education sector
Adigun urged the teachers across the state:” to remain dedicated and strive to become impactful educators who positively influence the lives of their students”
He also appealed to parents:” to live up to their responsibilities by providing proper care ,guidance and support for their children”, while urging students to remain focused on their education,work hard to achieve their goals and shun cultism and other social vices.
