Security Operatives Rescue Seven

Seven students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, who were abducted earlier this week, have been rescued by security operatives in a coordinated operation involving multiple security agencies.

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the successful rescue on Thursday while briefing journalists at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, alongside security chiefs and some of the rescued students.

He said the operation involved the Nigeria Police Force, the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Ogun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), local vigilantes and hunters.

According to the governor, all seven students were rescued alive, although one sustained a gunshot injury and is receiving medical treatment after being stabilised.

Abiodun disclosed that the operation received a major boost after the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, approved the deployment of a police helicopter for aerial surveillance, which aided the rescue mission.

He vowed that Ogun State would remain hostile to criminal elements, stressing that security agencies were still pursuing other members of the kidnapping gang.

The governor said ongoing joint security initiatives, including Operation Kò S’Áyé, had strengthened intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration, contributing to improved security across the state.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes through increased investment in security, intelligence coordination and improved welfare for security personnel.

Abiodun thanked traditional rulers, community leaders, the families of the victims and the management of Gateway ICT Polytechnic for their cooperation during the rescue operation, assuring residents that his administration would continue to strengthen security across the state.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, said no ransom was paid for the students’ release. He added that two suspected kidnappers had been arrested and were assisting investigators, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.
