EKSG TASKS CONTRACTORS ON PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS, TIMELINES

 

The Special Adviser to the Ekiti State Governor/ Director General, Bureau of Public Procurement , Mr James Folorunso has charged contractors handling government projects across the state to adhere strictly to project specifications and approved timelines on the projects.

The Director General who gave the charge while monitoring some ongoing projects in Ado Ekiti noted that the monitoring exercise was part of the statutory duties of the bureau to ensure that the State gets value for money on projects by ascertaining the quality and level of work done before recommending payment to the contractors.

“It is the responsibility of our Bureau to monitor government projects particularly before we issue Certificates of Payment (COP)for release of funds, it is important to ensure compliance with the set standards. We need to move to sites and physically see what is being done as we can’t just sit in the office and rely on submitted papers on the project and this is what we are doing here today” he said.

Emphasizing on the commitment of the present administration to the delivery of quality jobs, Pastor Folorunso expressed satisfaction on the jobs done so far, stressing that the Oyebanji Administration believes in projects that will not only make positive impact on the lives of the people but also stand the test of time.

“This present government led by Governor Biodun Oyebanji believes in quality projects.We won’t allow any contractor to use substandard materials and that’s why we give them close monitoring on every milestone from foundation level to finishing stage “.

Speaking on the deadlines of the projects, the Special Adviser charged the contractors to expedite actions so as to meet up with the target deadlines for the projects.

The projects sites visited by the Special Adviser and his team include: the Ekiti State International Centre for Arts and Culture located around Ureje Area of State Capital , the Revenue building around the Obafemi Awolowo Civic Centre , the Indoor Sports along the New Iyin road and the House of Assembly Complex renovation works all in Ado Ekiti.
